Hyper-realistic charcoal portraits exploring the human experience

Exploring grief, transformation, and what remains.

There are moments in life that don’t belong to the past, but don’t fully exist in the present either.

My work lives there.

Through charcoal and graphite, I create hyper-realistic portraits that explore intimacy, emotional depth, and the raw, often unspoken experiences of being human. Each piece is rooted in lived experience-grief, love, motherhood, healing-and the quiet transformation that follows.

About the Artist

I’m Abby Thiede-a Door County-based charcoal artist, mother, and lifelong observer of human emotion.

My work is shaped by a deep sensitivity to experience, a love for contrast and texture, and a belief that even the heaviest moments can hold softness.
