About Abby Thiede
Charcoal Artist Based in Door County, Wisconsin

Abby Thiede is a Door County-based charcoal artist creating hyper-realistic portraits that explore grief, transformation, and the emotional depth of the human experience.

Her work is rooted in a lifelong sensitivity to feeling—shaped by love, loss, motherhood, and the ongoing process of self-acceptance. Drawing from both personal experience and intuitive understanding, Abby creates pieces that hold space for what is often left unspoken.

Working primarily in charcoal and graphite, she is drawn to the medium for its ability to hold contrast—softness and intensity, control and release. The tactile nature of charcoal allows her to build depth slowly, creating work that feels both intimate and immersive.

Her ongoing series, Liminal Spaces, reflects a belief in transformation as a sacred and necessary process. These works explore the threshold between who we were and who we are becoming-where grief and healing coexist, and where the body carries memory long after the moment has passed.

Beyond her work as an artist, Abby is a mother of two and a full-time marketer. Her life is grounded in both creativity and structure, balancing the demands of daily life with a deep commitment to her artistic practice.

Her influences range from Victorian aesthetics, pagan practices, cinematic lighting, poetry, music, and the quiet beauty of everyday moments. She is drawn to richness in all forms—texture, emotion, experience..and this sensibility is reflected in every piece she creates.

Her work is created for those who seek depth, feel deeply, and are drawn to both the darkness and the light within it.
